Seniors at the Fox is just one of our programs that supports our region’s seniors! This is a program that provides free tickets to senior groups for shows that come to the Fox Performing Arts Center each season.
Many are surprised to learn that The Fox Performing Arts Center is a municipal entity and that it belongs to the public; however, not everyone has the capacity to buy tickets to the myriad shows and concerts that are presented (sold at the market rates by the hired venue manager, Live Nation). The Fox Riverside Theater Foundation fills that accessibility gap for area seniors groups by providing these complimentary tickets that would otherwise be inaccessible due to cost. For many of our senior participants, this is a rare treat, or even the first time they’ve experienced live theater.
Engaging seniors in cultural and arts activities is one way to improve social and health outcomes in these populations, as isolation and lack of community is statistically associated with higher rates of illness, depression, and higher mortality rates. With this in mind, our senior programming creates in-depth interactive opportunities whenever possible. During our Seniors at the Fox programming, we include our seniors in opportunities to interact directly with Broadway cast members for Q&A sessions during “cast chats” after shows. Outside of the Broadway programming, the Fox Riverside Theater Foundation creates opportunities for seniors to take special guided tours of the venue and view screenings of black and white films and silent films, which would have been screened in the theater in its early days.
